
Patent Pending: an IP Course for Scientists
Course Overview
The Biotechnology Club at UT Southwestern is offering a 5-part patent law course in collaboration with Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP and the UT Southwestern Innovation Hub. All UT Southwestern trainees, staff, and faculty are welcome to apply for the course. Applications open in January, and the course starts in mid-February. Participants learn the basics of patent law as it pertains to biomedical research and business development for scientists. No prior experience with patent law is required! Those who attend 4 out of the 5 sessions earn a certificate of training.

The final session of the patent law course will be open to everyone interested in science, law, and industry. This session is sponsored by BioLabs Pegasus Park in collaboration with Norton Rose Fulbright, the UT Southwestern Innovation Hub, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Attendees have the opportunity to network with professionals in IP law, industry, and academia. The panel session offers key insights into IP for business development in biotech, patents for academic research, and IP careers for scientists.
